At a meeting held at the Brookings Institution in Washington, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed US foreign policy and highlighted the challenges in the South Caucasus region, particularly in Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
The Secretary of State mentioned the Foreign Influence Law, noting that measures have been taken as a result of its passage, with more expected in the future.
"We and many other countries, have not only expressed deep concerns about it, especially its passage, but we have taken action to manifest those concerns and I think, you are likely to see more of that. It is clearly antithetical to the European direction that Georgia wants to take and that clearly the majority of Georgian people wants to take" - said Secretary Blinken.
Regarding Armenia and Azerbaijan, the top US diplomat emphasized significant diplomatic efforts made by the American side to facilitate a peace agreement between the two countries. He mentioned that there is a tremendous opportunity for economic connectivity and growth, fostering connections between countries in all directions.
"We have done that in very close collaboration, coordination with the European Union. I think, that's something that's really is within reach. I think that's achievable. It's manifestly in the interests if both Azerbaijan and armenia, as well as the broader region. So we are attuned to the challenges, including some of the ones in Georgia", - added Secretary Blinken.
