President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that 207 Ukrainian prisoners were repatriated from Russian captivity on Jan. 31, marking one of the largest groups to return to Ukraine since the onset of the full-scale war.
In an earlier exchange in January, 230 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) were brought back, constituting the most significant prisoner exchange since February 2022.
"We remember everyone in captivity," emphasized Zelensky, adding, "Soldiers and civilians. We have to return everyone." He expressed gratitude to his team for their efforts in facilitating the prisoners' return.
According to Chief Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, the recent exchange marked the 50th of its kind, with a total of 3,035 Ukrainians having been repatriated from captivity. Lubinets also outlined the support provided to the returning soldiers, including warm meals, clean clothes, medical examinations, document restoration, bank cards, and rehabilitation. Lubinets extended thanks to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center for the Coordination of the Search and Release of Prisoners of War, and the Security Service of Ukraine for their dedicated work in this endeavor.
