Several explosions were reported in the vicinity of the U.S. consulate in the Iraqi city of Erbil. Iran's Revolutionary Guard took credit for launching missile attacks on what they described as Israeli "spy headquarters," as per state media. According to Reuters, the Revolutionary Guard stated on Monday, "Ballistic missiles were used to destroy espionage centers and gatherings of anti-Iranian terrorist groups in the region late tonight." ABC News reported that Iran had targeted eight locations near the U.S. consulate, resulting in four casualties. Erbil serves as the capital of Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, which Tehran alleges is utilized as a base by Iranian separatist groups and hosts facilities belonging to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. However, the Kurdistan regional government denies these claims. No Americans were harmed in the attack on Monday, and U.S. facilities were reportedly unaffected, as per Reuters. Tehran also conducted strikes in Syria on Monday night, asserting that it was targeting Islamic State militants in response to recent terror attacks in Iran.
