At the discussion held within the framework of the Davos Economic Forum, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, praised the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili. On the other hand, head of the Georgian Government congratulated Aleksandre Vucic, on his victory in the elections. Representatives of both countries took part in a panel discussion held in Davos, entitled "A New Dawn for Eurasia?".
"You listened to Irakli. It doesn't matter what will happen in his political career in one, two, or five years, but I believe that he deserved to rule the country as many times as he had to. Do you remember that Georgia was a big star in the sky of Europe and what was the economic growth of Georgia then? - almost 1.5%. Today, no one talks about the excellent results of Irakli Gharibashvili, as well as the President of Kazakhstan, Kasim-Jomart Tokaev, and his government. Why? Because one cannot boast of such results in Europe" - said Vucic.
He also noted that perhaps, after establishing strategic relations with China, the European Union's questions to the Georgian government will increase, although "achieving success without Chinese investments is impossible."
"Irakli mentioned that he is increasing relations with China on a strategic level, and soon he will be faced with the same questions as there are for me: why are you doing this, are you closer to China or to the European Union? He should work for the good of his country. Without Chinese investment and close cooperation, he cannot easily and successfully achieve this. This should be understood in the European Union," added Aleksandre Vucic, speaking about the Prime Minister of Georgia.
Aleksandar Vucic's party has been ruling Serbia since 2012. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he maintained close ties with the Kremlin and the Russian president. On December 17, 2023, after the early parliamentary and local elections held in Serbia, according to the official data of the CEC of Serbia, his party won the majority of voters' support. However, the opposition boycotts the mentioned data and demands a review of the results of the Belgrade City Council elections. International observers also have serious questions about the elections held in Serbia.
