On September 25, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, will host world leaders at a traditional reception in New York as part of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, was also invited to the reception. However, "Voice of America" reported that the White House administration canceled the invitation to the head of the Georgian delegation, citing "recent actions and statements of the Georgian government, which demonstrate shocking disrespect for democracy and the will of the Georgian people."
According to "Voice of America," the White House, including National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, refused to meet with the Prime Minister of Georgia. Later, this information was confirmed by the U.S. Embassy in Georgia. In a released statement, it was mentioned that "the Biden administration canceled the invitation to Prime Minister Kobakhidze for the annual reception of the UN General Assembly and refused to meet with the Georgian delegation due to the Georgian government's anti-democratic actions, misinformation, and negative rhetoric about the United States and the West."
In addition to the diplomatic scandal, reports are circulating in the Georgian media that the Georgian ambassador to the U.S., Davit Zalkaliani, has resigned. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not confirmed this information.
"The information about the resignation of Davit Zalkaliani is not true," stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
