The meeting between the leader of the "For Georgia" party, Giorgi Gakharia, and Mamuka Khazaradze, one of the leaders of the "Strong Georgia" coalition, ended without a concrete agreement at this stage. As Giorgi Gakharia stated, Mamuka Khazaradze asked for additional time before making a final decision.
"Thanks to Khazaradze for this conversation. From my side, the position is clear. Khazaradze asked for some time. It seems that he has positions to agree on with others... as often happens," Giorgi, the leader of the "For Georgia" party, said to the media.
On the other hand, Mamuka Khazaradze, one of the leaders of the "Strong Georgia" coalition, said after the meeting at the President's administration that there was a pause in the negotiations regarding unification with Giorgi Gakharia's party.
"Despite the differences of opinion on many issues, we agreed to fully mobilize in order to remove the 'Georgian Dream' led by Bidzina from government. We have not finished the negotiations. These are not technical issues. The negotiations are not over; we took a break," said Mamuka Khazaradze.
On September 16, the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, announced at a special briefing that she supports the idea of uniting the "For Georgia" party and the "Strong Georgia" coalition before the elections. According to her statement, the union of these two political forces will create a third positive center and generate the necessary momentum for full mobilization in society, including among undecided voters.
