Sandro Baramidze, the former First Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia and former lawyer of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of "Georgian Dream" in 2012, is evaluating the personnel changes implemented within the government's hierarchy and states that the main reason for the transfers is "an attempt to create a new balance."
"If my assumptions are correct, the "rock" that Bidzina Ivanishvili caused when he changed the positions of Irakli Kobakhidze and Irakli Gharibashvili is actually aimed at altering the positions between Kaladze and Gharibashvili. He may even take legal measures against certain individuals to demonstrate that he not only speaks, but also takes action. In reality, Bidzina Ivanishvili has created a new balance, but in a manner that resulted in Irakli Gharibashvili being transferred to the party," noted Sandro Baramidze.
In response to the question of what kind of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze will be, lawyer Sandro Baramidze believes that "he will have nominal rights, and the real governing functions will remain in the hands of Bidzina Ivanishvili."
"Irakli Kobakhidze will be a 'no' prime minister. He has no management experience at all. He was involved in academic activities at the university when he became close to Bidzina Ivanishvili in "Georgian Dream". Managing the state is something else entirely. It doesn't take special management to maintain an aggressively compliant majority - the most important thing is to convey a "message," and to relay the same "messages" that you received this morning "from above" from someone else. Then, he forwarded these "messages" to the so-called team's cell phones, and that's it. It is evident that the primary administrative functions will remain with Bidzina Ivanishvili, who, as it turns out, was already providing advice behind the scenes, and now, one way or another, it is out in the open. Therefore, without his advice, Irakli Kobakhidze cannot take a single step," - he says.
Sandro Baramidze believes that during the prime ministership of Irakli Kobakhidze, his rhetoric will not change in the foreign direction either because "Bidzina Ivanishvili's task is not to improve relations with Western partners."
"I don't think that after Gharibashvili's premiership, Bidzina Ivanishvili's task is to improve relations with Western partners, especially with strategic partners. It doesn't seem that Bidzina Ivanishvili has this task. If Bidzina Ivanishvili decides and "Georgian Dream" changes its mind to take such effective measures, which means to quickly and effectively fulfill the "domestic tasks" given by the European partners, then the process of Western integration of the country will continue really fast. However, the "Georgian Dream" did not show the corresponding enthusiasm and desire. We were granted the candidate status considering two factors - these are the geopolitical interest of the European Union itself and the Georgian society. Of course, they won't take away our status, but if "Georgian Dream" doesn't take effective steps, we will remain frozen," - said Sandro Baramidze, former First Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia.
