GYLA Files Complaint with European Court of Human Rights on Behalf of Mzia Amaglobeli
The Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) has submitted a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti. The complaint alleges multiple violations of the European Convention on Human Rights.
During a press conference on April 28, GYLA representatives explained that the complaint highlights breaches of fundamental rights, including the right to liberty and security, the right to a fair trial, and the right to private and family life. They added that the complaint submitted only addresses some of the violations that have occurred against Amaglobeli.
"The case of Mzia Amaglobeli uncovers several serious procedural violations, which could point to criminal misconduct by investigative authorities. Notably, these include allegations of bribery involving Detective Vladimir Chitaia, which led to information being obtained from Amaglobeli’s phone. Importantly, the prosecutor’s office and the court overlooked the fact that her phone contained data related to journalistic sources, whose anonymity must be protected due to the nature of journalistic work. Such actions directly violate her rights to personal communication and privacy," GYLA stated.
