The President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, answered questions from Georgian and international media. Both local and international journalists asked her several times about the hypothetical scenario of what the President would do or what her plan of action would be if the Georgian Dream party attempted to rig the elections.
According to President Zourabichvili, she does not want to talk about such scenarios, but she is confident that pro-Western political forces will win the elections.
"I exclude everything except the victory of European powers and the victory of Georgia," Salome Zurabishvili said. According to her, "regardless of the use of financial or state resources, all public opinion polls show that two out of three citizens do not support the country's current course."
"This is the proportion between the pro-Western parties and the government. Everything indicates that the people are mobilized for the elections, so there is no way that fraud and intimidation can turn into election theft," Salome Zourabichvili said.
A question was also raised about a statement made in the Russian Duma a few months ago, according to which, "if the Georgian Dream needs it, Russia will be ready to help it with stability." According to President Zourabichvili, "Georgia is a country that wants a European future and nothing can stand in its way."
"All the videos that are being released and the talk that if the Georgian Dream does not win, there will be war and Russia will intervene are intimidation tactics. This is an attempt to put pressure on the voters," Salome Zourabichvili said. According to her, "there is no second front and the war party is only in Moscow."
At the briefing, a question was also asked about the polarized environment prevailing before the elections, to which President Zourabichvili responded that today "polarization is much less among the population than among the political elites."
