In Tbilisi, the investigative service of the Georgian Ministry of Finance conducted searches at the homes of two employees from the American think tank, the Atlantic Council: Eto Buziashvili and Sopho Gelava.
Eto Buziashvili recounted, "They arrived around 8 am, but they didn’t identify themselves as being from the financial police. Instead, they claimed to be from a gas company and mentioned a leak issue. About six individuals entered, began searching, confiscated my phone, and prevented me from contacting my lawyer. They seemed particularly interested in my documents and equipment; that was their main focus. The search lasted roughly two hours."
Sopho Gelava expressed uncertainty about the reasons behind the search at her residence. "They told me it was related to the company I’m contracted with, but I actually work for the Atlantic Council. This is an international organization based in the U.S., and my role involves researching disinformation, information operations, and Russian interference. Given this context, I find the current situation quite suspicious and unclear," noted Sopho Gelava.
Additionally, a search took place at the office of Onise Tskhadadze, who is employed by Concentrix, a business process management firm founded in California that offers consulting services to global brands. The company operates in over 70 countries, including Georgia, and notably entered the Georgian market with the support of the "Georgia Made" program.
Valeri Tkeshelashvili, the founder of Mercatus Capital and currently in Georgia, also had his home searched by the financial police. He explained that he has been in Georgia for several months and was informed by the authorities that they suspect him of involvement in call center-related activities.
According to state-run Imedi TV, these searches are part of an investigation into the so-called call center case, which is connected to David Kezerashvili.
Recently, the Georgian Ministry of Finance's Investigation Service released a statement indicating that "based on operational information, investigative actions were taken at three alleged call centers".
"In accordance with the operational information received in connection with the criminal case, being under investigation of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, investigative activities were conducted in three alleged so called "call centers" and based on the judge's ruling, the specified facilities were searched.
