On December 16, the next meeting of EU foreign ministers is taking place in Brussels, with the situation in Georgia slated to be a key topic of discussion. Prior to the meeting, High Representative Kaja Kallas indicated that EU member states would deliberate on potential actions against the Georgian government.

She informed the media that the current developments in Georgia do not align with "the direction in which a candidate country [for EU membership] should be heading." Furthermore, she mentioned that the foreign ministers would examine the implications of the Georgian government's "repressive actions against the opposition."

Kallas stated, "From the European side, one question could be sanctions, while another might involve restrictions on the visa-free regime."

When asked whether the foreign ministers would consider imposing personal sanctions on the leaders of the Georgian Dream party, the Estonian politician responded, "The list has already been proposed. We will review it, but consensus is necessary, and we have not reached that point yet. Let's see if we get there."
