“We welcome the decision by the Biden Administration to place sanctions on Georgian Dream Party Chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili for undermining the Euro-Atlantic future of Georgia. Under Ivanishvili’s direction, Georgian Dream has brought Georgia closer to the Russian model of one-party authoritarianism, passing a foreign agents law, unleashing violence against protestors and suspending negotiations to join the European Union. The United States must continue to hold those suppressing the democratic aspirations of the Georgian people accountable, including through additional sanctions.”
