Forty-four current employees of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have issued a joint statement, stating that "removing the opening of EU accession negotiations from the political agenda until 2028 contradicts the requirements of Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia."

We present the following statement, which was circulated on social media, unchanged:

Our primary duty as diplomats is to protect Georgia's national interests and adhere to the Constitution. Over the years, Georgian diplomacy has made every effort to integrate Georgia into European and Euro-Atlantic structures, which reflects the will and historical choice of the Georgian people. Today's statement on the removal of Georgia's EU accession negotiations from the agenda until 2028 does not align with the country's strategic interests. The wave of EU enlargement represents an unprecedented historical opportunity for Georgia to return to the European family, contingent upon international political events. A unilateral rejection of this opportunity by the country will lead to negative strategic consequences. Furthermore, it is possible that such favorable circumstances for joining European and Euro-Atlantic structures may not arise again. Stopping the accession negotiations will also lead to the isolation of the country. Without the support of Western partners, Georgia faces threats that are particularly intensified against the backdrop of ongoing changes in the international security environment. We believe that removing the opening of EU accession negotiations from the political agenda until 2028 contradicts the requirements of Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia. We remain committed to the course of Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
