Speaking to the media, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also commented on Georgia and said that "in 2023, the Georgian government pursued a pragmatic policy with Russia, and Moscow's goal is to normalize relations in the future if Tbilisi takes retaliatory steps."

"Last year, the government of Georgia took a pragmatic approach to relations with Russia. We canceled the visa regime for short-term travel to Russia for Georgian citizens, which had been in effect since 2000. Direct flights were also restored, making contact between people easier and contributing to the expansion of trade and economic ties. We aim for the future normalization of bilateral relations, of course, in the case of retaliatory steps on the part of Tbilisi," - said the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She also spoke about the occupied territories of Georgia and said that "the young Transcaucasian republics support Russia in the war in Ukraine, both with volunteers and with humanitarian aid."

It should be noted that before Speaker Zakharova's statement, the policy of the Georgian government was also called "pragmatic" by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov.
